Parish Defibrillator

The new defibrillator is now installed and functional at the Farmers Arms, West Hatch.

It is located in the yellow box to the left of the side-door in the driveway of the pub.

Its use is very simple and does not require any special knowledge. The machine tells you exactly what to do.
Its main use is for re-setting the heart during a cardiac arrest in addition to CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation)

There are several scenarios in which it could be used after calling 999 and starting CPR:-

  1. If a cardiac arrest occurs in the vicinity of the Farmers Arms, staff at the pub have been trained in its use.
  2. If a cardiac arrest occurs away from the pub and there is the means of getting the patient to the pub quickly for help but CPR needs to be continued.
  3. If it is not possible or sensible to move the patient and maintain CPR, get someone to drive to the pub and collect the defibrillator. You will need a code to open the box, for this you ring 999 and give the location and number of the box – clearly written on the outside of the box. Use the code, open the box and take the defibrillator to the patient.

N.B. The Ambulance will have a defibrillator on board when it arrives at the scene. The above are alternate ways with the potential of getting the defibrillator to the patient more quickly.

There are several videos on YouTube which show how easy the defibrillators are to use, such as:

I hope this is clear and that it never has to be used!

Remember – Start CPR First – then Call 999 – and then get the Defibrillator

We may be able to show YouTube videos at the Farmers Arms for those who haven’t access to the internet. Let me know if you’re interested.
